Star anise is the fruit obtained from illicium verum trees. The seeds are used as spices. These seeds have a strong and distinct licorice flavor with many medicinal benefits. They are rich in bioactive compounds. Star anise seeds also offer antifungal and antibacterial properties and help in curing fungal infections in humans. In cooking, the seeds are used in whole or in powder, but a little can go a long way. It is therefore sprinkled on the top of the curries, soups, stews, and tea.
