Heat Conduction Trainer Technical Description This unit is used to investigate steady-state and non-steady-state heat conduction processes. An interchangeable cylindrical specimen is fitted between a heat source and a heat sink. The specimen is prefitted with twelve thermocouples distributed along its length. The electrical heat source is controlled electronically. The heat sink is water-cooled. The temperatures of the heat source, cooling water and specimen are indicated. There are also displays for heater power and cooling water flow rate. The thermal conductivity can be calculated using the measured data. In addition, it is possible to transfer the measured data to a computer via a serial interface and display the data on the computer. The software is included. A temperature step can be generated by adjusting the flow of cooling water. With the aid of the PC the non-steady-state temperature distribution in the specimen can be displayed against position and time. A supply of cooling water is required.
Trainer For Industrial Controllers Technical Description This trainer familiarises students with the operation and function of a state-of-the-art industrial process controller. The controller has freely accessible inputs and outputs. Defined input levels and step signals can beproduced with a signal generator. A digital voltmeter is used to measure the input and output signals. A simplefirst order lagis simulated to allow the response and stability of a closed control loop to be investigated. All signals are accessible via lab jacks so a standard x/y plotter or line recorder can be used. It is also possible to control external system models with this controller. As well as manual configuration and parameter setting with keys, the controller can be configured (configurationsoftware supplied)from a PC over an RS232 interface. Rolling Agglomeration Technical Description The terms agglomeration, granulation and pelletisation designate the process of particle size enlargement of solids. Thistrainer was developed in cooperation with theDepartment of Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld. A powder (fine material) is continuously fed onto an inclined, rotating dish granulator. A pump delivers granulating liquid to a two-component nozzle. The liquid is atomised over the powder by compressed air. Starting from a small number of moistened particles, a rolling motion produces growing numbers of balls (agglomerates). The fine material in the moved layer tends to remain close to the bottom. It is lifted higher than the forming agglomerates by the rotary motion of the dish. The ball-shaped agglomerates roll along the surface of the layer. When they have attained a certain size, they drop off the rim of the disc. The agglomerates are collected in a tank. Two further tanks are provided for the solid material (for which powdered limestone is recommended) and the granulating liquid (sugar powder diluted in water).The mass flow of solid feed material, the flow rate of the liquid, the speed and the angle of inclination of the disc are adjustable. The compressive strength of the resultant agglomerates can be measured using a laboratory device or with accessory unit . To determine these and other key properties of the agglomerates, a balance and drying chamber are also recommended. Pipe Friction Bench Technical Description The test stand for investigating losses in pipes is a complete, closed experimental set-up. Due to the installation of the set-up on a laboratory trolley and the closed water circuit with supply tank and pump, the test stand is flexible in use. Eight different pipe sections are provided for the investigations, these are equipped with annular chambers with measuring connections for pressure measurements. The pipes can be individually selected for the investigations using ball-cocks. Double tube manometers are provided for pressure measurements along with a battery-operated electronic differential pressure gauge. The flow rate is indicated on a variable-area flow meter. An instruction manual with detailed description of the theoretical background is supplied.
Trainer For Field Bus Applications Technical Description Field bus technology plays a key role in modern-day process automation. The field bus permits networking of terminal devices such as controllers, sensors or actuators in the plant system (field level) with the higher-level control room (control level). A network of this kind can be quite extensive; line lengths of as much as 1000 metres and more are possible. This benchtop traineris used to teachthe initial basicsteps in field bus technology based on the example of Profibus DP. Various terminal devices (slaves) are activated and read by a PC with a Profibus DP interface (master). The required hardware is largely pre-configured. Students are able to concentrate on the software programming of the field bus system. The following specific topics can be covered: System configurator with DMF (DeviceMasterFile), bus topology, communication protocols, tags, OPC (OLE forProcessControl) server, input and output of process data, and much more. The unit includes a digital process controller as well as analogue and digital input and output modules with aProfibus DPinterface. Two potentiometers permit the simulation of input signals for the controllers. A digital voltmeter displays the output signals. Digital signals are generated by switches and displayed by LEDs. The controlled variable, manipulating variable and reference variable data are delivered as standard signals at lab jacks, enabling the controllers to beincorporated into real processes at any time. Axial-Flow Reaction Turbine Demonstrator Technical Description The axial turbine represents a model of a reaction stage as found in gas and steam turbines. The model can be completely independently operated, as it is provided complete with a supply tank, pipework, pump and instrumentation on a laboratory trolley. The flow rate in the sealed water circuit is determined using a differential pressure measurement at a measuring orifice and can be adjusted using a ball-cock. The moment present on the turbine shaft is measured using a dynamometric brake with an electronic force sensor. In addition, the turbine speed is measured using an inductive proximity switch. The following accessories are required for operation: an Interface Module, Data Acquisition Card with Software and Set of Connecting Cables . Using these accessories it is possible to take measurements, and process and store the measurements on a PC.
