Scientific Instruments And Devices

Leading Manufacturer, Supplier & Retailer of Advanced Conduction Unit, Boundary Layer Flow, Centrifugal Compressor Demonstrator, Centrifugal Pump Demonstrator and Radial-Flow Reaction Turbine Demonstrator.

Advanced Conduction Unit

Advanced Conduction Unit Technical Description In this benchtop unit, a metal test bar is clamped between a heater and a Peltier element as the cooler. The complete arrangement is under an evacuated bell jar. In this way errors due to convection can be ignored and all the heat must flow through the test bar. The thermal conductivity can be calculated from the temperature difference between the hot and cold end and the heater power. The housing contains the vacuum pump and the digital displays.

Boundary Layer Flow

Boundary Layer Flow Technical Description The experimental set-up is placed in the Air Flow Studies unit with only a few actions. The model consists of a transparent tube in which the flat plate is placed. Above the plate, a vertically adjustable Pitot tube is fitted using which the flow speeds at the plate can be measured. The Pitot tube can be fitted on a holder in 3 positions along the plate. The Pitot tube is connected to the manometer belonging to the studies unit.

Centrifugal Compressor Demonstrator

The Centrifugal Compressor is part of an equipment series for the investigation of fluid-flow machines. The arrangement, fitted to a sturdy base plate, contains the compressor with intake and delivery tube, as well as transducers for air volumetric flow rate, temperature, fan speed, intake and delivery pressure. The voltage signals sent by the transducers are digitised with the data acquisition card (available as accessory). The associated software permits further processing on a PC. The following accessories are required for operation: an Interface Module , Data Acquisition Card with Software and Set of Connecting Cables . This layout makes it possible to record measured values during the experiments, and process and store this data on a PC. A Power Meter facilitates the determination of efficiencies.

Centrifugal Pump Demonstrator

The centrifugal pump demonstration unit / PC is designed for instructional and experimental use at vocational schools, special colleges and universities. The model is part of a series of units that permit experiments to fluid-flow machines. The unit is set up on a stable base plate and includes a pump, tank, all required fittings and recording devices for flow rate, temperature, pump speed, intake and conveying pressure. The signals can be digitised and transferred to a PC via a data acquisition card. The following accessories are required for operation: interface module , data acquisition card with software and set of connecting cable . The power meter is a practical way to expand the unit, as it enables the user to determine the efficiency rate of the pump.

Radial-Flow Reaction Turbine Demonstrator

Technical Description Reaction turbine demonstration unit, designed for operation in conjunction with the Turbine Service Unit. The turbine unit is placed on the Turbine Service Unit and supplied with water by the service unit. The turbine housing is made of Plexiglass so that the emerging water jet that drives rotor using the reaction principle can be observed unhindered. A braking device is fitted to the impeller shaft of the turbine, the braking device is in the form of a band brake using which the load and moment on the turbine shaft can be measured with an electronic dynamometer. A proximity switch measures the rotational speed of the turbine. The following accessories are required for operation: an Interface Module , Data Acquisition Card with Software and Connecting Cables . Using these accessories it is possible to take measurements, and process and store the measurements on a PC.

Refrigerant Compressor Fault Simulator

The table unit is part of a series designed for training in refrigeration engineering. The unit addresses electrical faults as they can occur in the operation of a commonly available refrigerant compressor. The faults are simulated using pushbuttons on the front panel of the unit. Other components as, a switch box with the starting relay, running capacitor, starting capacitor and motor protection circuit breaker are also arranged on the front panel. The measured points in the electrical circuit are accessed using laboratory sockets. A circuit diagram printed on the front panel provides information on the circuit. A multimeter is included for fault-finding.

Gear Pump Demonstrator

Gear Pump Demonstrator Technical Description The demonstration unit enables the operating behaviour of a gear pump to be investigated. These pumps are particularly suitable for the generation of medium-high pressures at low flow rates. In practice this type of pump is predominantly used in oil-based hydraulics. The demonstration model consists of a system of pipes made of steel and a tank made of Plexiglass. Electronic sensors provide the flow rate, relevant pressures, the temperature of the pumped medium and the rotational speed of the drive motor as measured values. The pump output can be changed using a regulator valve. The following accessories are required for operation: an Interface Module , Data Acquisition Card with Software and Set of Connecting Cables . Using these accessories it is possible to take measurements, and process and store the measurements in a PC.

Flowmeter Trainer

Flowmeter Trainer Technical Description The test stand is used for familiarization with a wide range of flowmeters. These devices are available as accessories and are easily installed in the mounting position foreseen. A vertical and a horizontal measuring station are provided on the test stand. The flowmeters are supplied with water by the test stand. As the test stand has a closed water circuit with supply tank and pump, only a mains electricity supply is required to operate the test stand. The pipework consists of corrosion-resistant material; 2 tube manometers in the form of a differential pressure gauge are provided for determining pressure losses. To be able to check the function and precision of the flowmeters under investigation, a reference flowmeter is provided.

Critical Condition Of Struts

Critical Condition Of Struts

Features

  • Low cost, effective teaching
  • Self-contained
  • Bench-mounted
  • Demonstration of shape of a deflectedstrut
  • Direct loading gives highly visual impactof Euler theory
  • All possible end constraints
  • Comparison with theoretical predictions

Range of Experiments

  1. To observe the behaviour of four struts of the same length but with different end constraints when subjected to buckling loads.
  2. To compare the result with theoretical predictions, such as Euler's formula.

A piece of material in compression is called a strut. If it is short and stubby it will fail by compressive stress, but if it is slender the failure mode is that of buckling. The load at which the strut buckles depends on the way in which the ends are restrained. Built-in ends resist buckling more than ends which are free to move. The apparatus shows how the buckling mechanism occurs, and the influence of the end restraint.

The apparatus comprises a sheet metal frame which supports four slender spring steel struts having loading platforms at their top ends. Each strut has a different end constraint so that comparisons can be instantly made in a highly visible way.

a) Both ends pinnedb) One end pinned, the other end fixedc) Both ends fixedd) Base fixed, top free

For the first three, the ends move inwards as the strut buckles. The loading platforms act through relatively friction free guide bushes.

This equipment is part of a range designed to both demonstrate and experimentally confirm basic engineering principles. Great care has been given to each item so as to provide wide experimental scope without unduly complicating or compromising the design. Each piece of apparatus is self-contained and compact. Setting up time is minimal, and all measurements are made with the simplest possible instrumentation, so that the student involvement is purely with the engineering principles being taught. A complete instruction manual is provided describing the apparatus, its application, experimental procedure and typical test results.

Civil Engineering Equipment

Civil engineering equipment, A belt moving over this break drum provides necessary torque to the shaft of the motor, and in turn loads the shaft with a finite torque. Two calibrated spring balances are connected to either side of the belt, which is moving over the break drum. This is a method to load the shaft of the motor with a loading arrangement. By taking reading on these spring balance readings, the loading value may be calculated.
